Admission to Virginia Tech is highly competitive. In recent years the typical successful applicant has had a "B+" or better average, took a strong curriculum throughout their high school career and scored generally between 1160 and 1340 on the SAT (Math and Critical Reading only). It is not unusual for Virginia Tech to receive 20,000 applications from which to select a freshman class of 5,000. More detailed information can be found at the Virginia Tech Admission Office website at www.admiss.vt.edu.
Academic achievement is only one component of becoming a member of the Regimental Band. You need to know that the band is a lifestyle. We live together under one roof as a unit of the Corps of Cadets, and in addition to academic excellence, we are committed to musical and performance excellence.
If you wish to become a member of the Regimental Band you should select cadet status on your university application and indicate an interest in the band. Note that there is no military service obligation connected with the Corps or the Band. However, many of our members do pursue commissions as military officers through the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC).
